How to Open and Convert AVIF Images to JPG
Open AVIF images in modern browsers and convert them to widely compatible JPG files without uploading them.
AVIF is a modern image format with efficient compression, transparency, HDR, and wide-color capabilities. Modern browsers can display it, but older applications, upload forms, and content systems may still require JPG.
1.How to open an AVIF image
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Opera support AVIF images. You can often open an AVIF by dragging it into a browser tab.
If a desktop editor or business application rejects the file, converting a copy to JPG is usually the simplest compatibility fix. Keep the original AVIF when it contains transparency, HDR, or other information that JPG cannot represent.
2.Convert AVIF to JPG in four steps
- Open the PixelShift AVIF to JPG converter in a modern browser.
- Add one or more AVIF images.
- Select JPG, choose a quality setting, and enable a white background if the source contains transparency.
- Run the conversion and download the JPG files individually or as a ZIP.
3.Transparency and color considerations
JPG does not support transparent pixels. If the AVIF contains transparency, those areas need a solid background. PixelShift can fill them with white before export.
AVIF can also store higher bit depths and HDR information that ordinary JPG workflows do not preserve. Use JPG for compatibility, not as a perfect archival replacement for every AVIF feature.
4.Choosing the JPG quality
- Start with a high setting for photographs containing fine detail.
- Lower the setting gradually when file size matters more than close-up detail.
- Inspect text, hair, gradients, and sharp edges for compression artifacts.
- Retain the AVIF original so you can create another derivative later.
